TRAINEE FAQs
How do I apply for a residency/fellowship in a CRPPTP member program?
At present, there is not a centralized application portal specific for CRPPTP programs. Each training program sets its own application procedures. Visit the Member Program Directory to obtain individual program contact information and links to program websites/brochures.
Do CRPPTP member programs require a standard application form or requirements?
No. Each program sets its own requirements. However, it is common for programs to require a letter of interest/personal statement, CV, graduate transcripts, and 2-4 references.
Does CRPPTP participate in a "Match Program" (similar to APPIC for internship or APPCN for neuropsychology fellowships)?
No. There is no match program for CRPPTP member programs. Some departments/institutions may offer multiple training programs, including those that participate in the APPIC and/or APPCN match. However, there is not a match program specifically for postdoctoral training programs in rehabilitation psychology.
Is there a fee to apply to CRPPTP member programs?
Generally, there is not a fee, unless the program uses a central application platform such as the APPIC Psychology Postdoctoral Application Centralized Application Services (APPA CAS). In some cases, an application fee is applied. CRPPTP is not involved in establishing these procedures.
Do CRPPTP member programs require degree completion and internship completion?
Yes. Postdoctoral programs require applicants to have obtained their doctoral degree, including completion of the predoctoral internship.
Do I need to complete an internship specialized in rehabilitation psychology to apply for postdoctoral training in CRPPTP member programs?
No. Predoctoral training in rehabilitation psychology is generally preferred, but can come in many forms including practicum/externship training, coursework, and internship training.
Do CRPPTP member programs have a universal application deadline or universal start date?
No. Refer to individual program instructions and materials for application deadlines and expected start dates. Start dates may be flexible on a program-by-program basis.
Are CRPPTP member programs required to adhere to APPIC's Postdoctoral Selection Standards and Common Hold Date?
No. However, consistent with APPIC's Statement on Postdoctoral Selection, CRPPTP member programs are strongly encouraged to adhere to the selection and Common Hold Date standards. Please refer to the APPIC website for additional information about selection standards and the Common Hold Date.
Are all CRPPTP member programs APA-accredited?
No. Please refer to the Member Program Directory to obtain individual program APA accreditation status.
Do I need to interview at the annual Rehabilitation Psychology Conference in February?
No. There are no standard interview dates for CRPPTP member programs. Interviews typically take place late December through late February. Some interviews do take place at the annual Rehabilitation Psychology Conference. Contact the individual program if you have questions about interview timelines.
What are the advantages of completing postdoctoral training in a CRPPTP member program?
CRPPTP membership ensures programs adhere to the Guidelines for Postdoctoral Training in Rehabilitation Psychology, established during the 2011 Baltimore Conference (Stiers et al., 2012). Completing a fellowship with a CRPPTP member program communicates to the professional community and to the public that you have obtained advanced competencies in the specialty of rehabilitation psychology. Fellowships from CRPPTP member programs also provide a straight-forward path toward board certification from the American Board of Rehabilitation Psychology. Additionally, employers increasingly ask about eligibility for board certification. Completion of training with a CRPPTP member program confers added confidence in your eligibility and likelihood for obtaining the credential.
